Resetting the Vizio TV remote is the best way to drain static electricity, which also prevents the remote from unpairing. The remote reset will completely clear the bugs, errors, and previously paired device information. After you reset the Vizio TV remote, you need to pair it with your TV to control it. Similarly, if you use a Vizio universal remote, you need to reset it to delete the pairing history and set it up with a new device.
Steps to Reset the Vizio TV Remote
You can reset your Vizio TV remote to its factory settings by performing a power cycle on your remote. The power cycling method works on all Vizio TV remotes that come without a Mute button.
1. Remove the battery panel at the back of your Vizio TV remote and eject the batteries.
2. Press and hold the Power button at the top of the remote for a few seconds. This will remove all the residual power that is stored in your Vizio remote.
3. Then, press all the buttons on your Vizio remote one by one. The good thing about this is that it will also release the buttons that get stuck.
4. Once you press all the buttons on your remote, insert a pair of new batteries by properly looking at the positive and negative diodes. If the batteries are old, replace them with a fresh pair of batteries.
Now, your Vizio TV remote has been reset. To use this remote, check the user manual of your Vizio TV remote and complete the pairing process.
Steps to Reset the Vizio Universal Remote
Since there is no specific step to reset your Vizio universal remote, you can unpair it from the TV. The Vizio universal remote deletes all the information and becomes fresh when you unpair it.
Long-press the Input and Mute buttons on your Vizio universal remote for around 10 seconds. An LED light at the top of the remote will begin to blink after you press those buttons. This indicates that your Vizio universal remote is unpaired from your TV. Now, you need to re-pair it with your TV to use the universal remote.
Alternate Way to Reset the Vizio Universal Remote
This step is applicable to a few universal remote models of Vizio. You can try this step when you feel that the above-mentioned unpairing step doesn’t reset your remote.
1. Long press the Setup or Set button on your universal remote.
2. Release the Setup button once the LED light at the top of the universal remote flashes twice.
3. Once the light blinks, enter the reset code of your Vizio Universal remote, which is generally 981 or 977.
4. The LED light will blink again twice after you successfully enter the correct reset code. This indicates that your universal remote’s memory has been erased and reset to its factory settings.
5. Now, you need to program your universal remote with your TV once again.
If you cannot solve the remote issue after performing a reset, contacting Vizio’s customer support might be a good choice. The customer support executive will evaluate your issue and guide you with further steps. You can also replace your remote for free if it is under active warranty.
Until you receive the replacement remote, install the VIZIO app via the Play Store or App Store and use it to control your TV.
