It will be very annoying if the remote is missing when you are ready to watch something on your Vizio TV. You may think that powering the TV on, channel switching, volume adjustments, and scrolling can never be done without a remote. Fortunately, there are other ways to turn on your Vizio TV and control it without a remote. In this article, we will explain those alternative ideas in detail.
Use the Physical Power Button to Turn On Vizio TV
If you don’t have a remote, you can easily turn on your Vizio TV using the physical Power button. The location and number of the physical buttons will differ depending on your Vizio TV’s model. If you use an old Vizio TV, you can see many physical buttons on the side or back panel. One of those buttons is the Power button. Pressing the Power button once will turn on your TV without a remote.
On the other hand, if you have the latest Vizio TV model, it will come with a single Power button. This Power button will be at the bottom or underneath the Vizio logo. Press the Power button once, and your TV will take a second to power it up. Before pressing the Power button, you must confirm that your TV is in standby mode. If not, plug your TV cord into the outlet and ensure the power switch is turned on.
Power On Vizio TV Using the IR Remote App
On some Vizio TVs, the Power button is on the backside. If you have mounted your TV on the wall, pressing the Power button to turn it on will be difficult. In that case, you can use the Vizio TV remote app as a virtual control to power on your device.
Note: The VIZIO | WatchFree+ app is available to control Vizio TVs, but the fact is it requires a WiFi connection. This app can control Vizio Smart TV if it is turned on and is connected to the same WiFi as your phone. If your TV is powered off, the app won’t control your Vizio TV because of inactive WiFi.
With the IR remote app, you can easily power on your Vizio TV like your physical remote. However, before installing the infrared remote app, check if your mobile phone has a built-in IR blaster. If you use an iPhone, this method is not for you. Once you confirm the IR blaster on your Android phone, install any of the IR remote apps mentioned below.
After installing the app, launch it, and pick a TV remote. When the app shows a remote layout, tap the Power icon to manage the ON/OFF functions on your Vizio TV.
Turn On Vizio TV Using the HDMI-CEC Feature
If you have a gaming console connected to your Vizio TV, you can turn the TV on using the HDMI-CEC feature. If you enable this feature on your TV and console, your Vizio TV will match the power state of the HDMI-connected device. Usually, you don’t need to turn on the HDMI-CEC feature on Vizio TV, as it will be turned on by default.
For old Vizio TVs, you have to turn it on manually by going to Settings. Similarly, enable CEC Device Control on your gaming console. From now onward, your Vizio TV will turn on automatically when the gaming console is turned on.
