When you buy a Wii console, the remote that comes with it will already be paired. However, if you would like to use a secondary Wii remote, you need to synchronize it with your console before using it. The Wii remote can be synced in two ways: Standard Mode and One Time Mode. This article explains all possible Wii remote syncing procedures in simple steps to help you learn the process better.
Synchronize Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus to the Console using Standard Mode
The Standard Synchronise method is used when you buy a replacement Wii remote and try to pair it with a console. Also, you can use this method to resynchronize your original remote with your console when it is unpaired.
1. Pick your Wii remote and ensure that you have inserted a fresh pair of AA batteries in the remote’s battery compartment.
2. Once you have inserted the batteries, press the Power button on the front side of the console to turn it on.
3. On the back of the Wii remote, remove the battery cover. Near the battery socket, you will find a red-colored SYNC button.
4. Press the SYNC button on your Wii remote, and the LED light will begin to blink.
5. Next, on the front side of the Wii Console, you will find an SD card slot. Open the SD card slot and tap the red-colored sync button.
The Wii remote is synced successfully with your console when the player LED on your remote stops blinking.
Synchronize Wii Remote to the Console Using One Time Mode
Using One Time mode, you can temporarily control your Wii Console with a different Wii remote. Keeping your remote in this mode does not affect the standard mode setting saved in your Wii remote. You don’t need to turn on your friend’s console when your remote is in one-time mode. You only need to turn on a console when it is paired using standard mode. The steps to synchronize your Wii Remote to one-time mode are as follows.
1. Make sure that your Wii console is turned on while doing this process.
2. Take a Wii remote that is already synchronized with a Wii console and press the Home button once.
3. A Home menu will appear on your TV screen. Click on the Wii Remote Settings option at the bottom of the screen.
4. On the next screen, select the Reconnect option.
5. Now, take any Wii Remote which you want to put in one-time mode. Hit the buttons 1 and 2 on the remote without any interval or pause. If you want to connect multiple remotes with your Wii console, press those buttons on the remotes in the order that you want to sync.
6. While your remote is syncing with the console, the player LED on the remote blinks continuously. The blinking light on the remote stops once your remote is paired successfully.
How to Sync Wii Remote with Wii U Console from the HOME Menu
If you use a Wii U Deluxe or a Wii U basic console, the steps to sync your Wii remote change slightly.
Note: You need to connect the sensor bar with your Wii U console as a first step before you sync the Wii remote.
1. With your Wii U console powered on, hit the Home key on your Wii remote to bring up the home screen.
2. Click on the Controller Settings option.
3. Under the Wii Remote/Other Controllers option, find the Pair option and select it.
4. Then, remove the battery cover on the back of your Wii remote and press the red-colored SYNC button.
Note: In some remote models, the SYNC button will be located with the hole. You can use the tool on the wrist strap to press the SYNC button in those remotes. You don’t need to remove the battery cover on these remotes to access the SYNC button.
5. If you want to add multiple controllers with your console, tap the SYNC button on those remotes too.
6. Once you finished pressing the SYNC button on all the required remotes, tap Exit.
How to Sync Wii Remote to PC
If you want, you can connect a Wii remote to a computer and use it as a game controller when playing games on it. Make sure your PC has a built-in Bluetooth feature, as the Wii remote requires Bluetooth to pair it with your PC.
1. Keep the sensor bar that comes along with your Wii Console above or below your Monitor. Also, don’t forget to connect the sensor bar to your console.
2. Next, visit the official website of Dolphin Emulator on your PC’s browser and download the application. Once you download the file, install it on your PC.
