TiVo remotes can be used as universal remote controllers. If you program a TiVo remote with your TV, you can control its power, volume, and mute functions. Program TiVo BOLT or TiVo Roamio to TV [For TiVo Box Running Version 20.X or Earlier]
As a prerequisite, turn on your TiVo Experience 3 box and your TV. Then, insert the batteries into the TiVo BOLT or TiVo Roamio remote and follow the process.
1. Open the TiVo device Central screen using the remote.
2. Launch the Settings & Messages.
3. Under that, select the Remote, CableCARD, & Devices option.
4. Tap the Remote Control Setup. You can see a list of functions and their specific programming steps.

Set Up TiVo Remote to Control TV Volume, Mute, and Power
1. Run Settings on your TiVo device.

Program TiVo Remote to TV Without Code
If the remote code doesn’t work, you can program the TiVo remote by following the steps below.
Control TV Power, Volume, and Mute
1. Grab the TiVo remote and hide the remote end with your palm.
2. Hold the TiVo and TV Power keys on the TiVo remote at a time.
3. Release these buttons when the remote light flashes red or amber. The remote will stay lit.
4. Take your hand from the end of the TiVo remote.
5. Type 0999 using the remote’s number pad. The remote light will blink red or amber thrice and remain on.
6. Continuously click the Channel Up keys every two seconds to test the code database in the remote’s hardware.
7. Once the right code is found, it will turn the TV off.
Control the TV Input
1. Hide the remote’ end with your palm.
2. Long-press the TiVo and TV Input button.
3. Let go of the buttons when the remote light blinks red or amber.
4. Unhide the remote’s end.
5. Type 0999 using the remote’s numeric buttons.
6. The remote light will blink red or amber thrice.
7. Continuously hit the Channel Up button until your TV’s Input opens.
Program TiVo Remote via Learning
If you own a functioning TV remote, you can copy its functions to the TiVo remote.
1. Hold the TiVo and Select buttons on the remote for 3 seconds.
2. As a result, the remote’s activity light will blink red or amber and stay lit.
3. Click any of the buttons on the TiVo remote which you wish to learn. For illustration purposes, we press the Power button.
4. Place both TiVo remote and TV remote facing each other. Place the remote within 1 inch of distance.
5. Hold the same Power button on the TV remote.
6. The TiVo remote’s activity light will blink 4 times if the function is copied. If the light blinks 10 times, then the remote learning is unsuccessful.
7. Repeat the same process to copy the remaining button functions.
8. After copying, hit the TiVo button on the remote to save functions.
