If you are on the weekend, you may think of watching a movie or series on your Firestick. For a better streaming experience, Firestick should be connected to a strong WiFi connection. If you haven’t set up a wireless network on Firestick, you need to visit the network settings using the remote and do it. But what if you can’t find the Fire TV remote in the place where you used to keep it? Instead of searching for the remote, read this guide to learn the alternative ways to connect your Firestick to WiFi.
Use the IR Remote App to Connect Firestick to WiFi
You can set up a wireless internet connection on Firestick using the IR remote app. The only requirement for using the app is an Android phone with a built-in IR blaster. Here are some infrared remote apps that we found working with Fire TV devices.
- Remote for Amazon Fire Stick (by Mobile-Care)
- Insignia Fire TV Remote (by Naba)
- Mi Remote controller – for TV (by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co., Ltd)
Once the app is installed, launch the Firestick IR remote app and choose a remote. Then, click the Settings icon on the Firestick home screen and select Network. Further, choose a WiFi network and enter the password to connect.
Note: Firestick has an official remote app, Amazon Fire TV, but it works using WiFi signals. Therefore, we can’t use this app to set up WiFi on your Firestick.
Rename Mobile Hotspot to Connect Firestick to WiFi
You can automatically connect your Fire TV to a hotspot by renaming its SSID and password as the same as its previously connected WiFi. To enable a hotspot on an Android device, pull up or down the notification panel and long-click the Hotspot icon. Now, rename the Hotspot name and the password according to which your Firestick was connected.
Note: This method will not work if your Firestick has never been connected to a wireless network.
If you own an iPhone, go to Settings, select Cellular, and choose Personal Hotpot or Settings. Then, select the Personal Hotspot option. After that, tap the slider next to Allow Others to Join. Below that, click Wi-Fi Password and rename it accordingly. To rename the hotspot name, go to Settings > General > About > Name > Rename it.
Once you change the hotspot name and password on your mobile device, your Firestick will automatically connect to it.
Use a Wireless Keyboard to Connect Firestick to WiFi
If you have a keyboard or mouse, you can connect it to Firestick and use it as a remote. As Firestick doesn’t have multiple USB ports, you will be required to buy a USB OTG Hub Adapter from Amazon. After setting it up, you will be able to use a keyboard to go to Firestick settings and connect it to WiFi.
If you don’t have a wireless keyboard, we recommend buying an iPazzPort Mini Keyboard from Amazon. The best thing about this device is that it comes with a multi-finger touchpad for easy navigation control. This remote can work from a maximum range of up to 33 feet.
Connect Firestick to a Wired Internet Using an Ethernet Adapter
Compared to WiFi, a wired internet connection is better for Firestick in terms of speed and stability. You need to buy an ethernet adapter from Amazon, which is not included with the purchase of a Firestick. Once you get the adapter, take the LAN cable and connect one end to it and the other end to a WiFi router.
The best thing about using an ethernet adapter is that you don’t need to tweak any settings to get internet access. When the wired connection is detected, you can start watching the preferred content on your Firestick.
