This article provides complete instructions for setting up a SofaBaton remote of the U and X Series using this application.
Prerequisites for Configuring SofaBaton Remote
Before you proceed to configure your SofaBaton remote, you need to ensure a few things are ready.
- Turn on WiFi and Bluetooth on your smartphone.
- Install the SofaBaton app on your smartphone from the Play Store or App Store.
- Create an account on your SofaBaton app using your email address.
Steps to Configure U Series Remote Using the SofaBaton App
To simplify the process, we have subdivided the configuration of a physical SofaBaton remote into specific sections.
Connecting a Remote to the SofaBaton App
1. Launch the SofaBaton app on your smartphone.
2. Select U Series on the Select Your Device page.
3. Now, take your SofaBaton remote and long press the – button and E button simultaneously for a few seconds until your remote screen displays the message, “Pairing.”
4. A prompt will appear on your smartphone. Click Connect to pair your remote with the app.
Now, your remote is successfully connected to the app.
Adding Devices to Your U Series Remote
After connecting your U series remote to the app, you will be taken to the Devices page. Then, you need to select Add at the top of the page. Once you select this option, you will be provided with two options: Infrared and Bluetooth. You can select the option based on your device type.
Adding an Infrared Device
If you have an infrared device, you can add it using the original IR remote and manually using the database.
Learn From Original IR Remote
1. On the Add IR Device page, tap Learn from Original IR remote.
2. Then, take your device’s original remote and your U Series remote on hand. The IR emitter of both remotes should face each other.
3. Now, on the app, a remote interface will appear. Press the button on the app that you want to learn from the original remote and tap Next.
4. Now, press and hold the same button on the original remote. For example, if you press the Power button on the app, press the same Power button on your original remote.
5. On the next step, enter the Device Name and choose a Device Icon on the app.
Search Your Device Model in the Database
1. Tap Search in the Database option from the Add IR Device page.
2. Next, choose your TV brand from the list. If you can’t find your TV brand from the list, tap I can’t find the corresponding brand option at the bottom of the screen.
Note: You can add your device manually by selecting I can’t find the corresponding brand option. To do that, tap Start Testing → select the TV icon → Test the commands and tap Next → click the Power button → Tap Yes on the prompt → select Next → tap Complete.
3. Look for your device model from the Search tab and select it.
4. A remote interface will appear. Tap Next to continue.
5. On the device information page, type the device name, choose the icon, and tap Continue.
6. Wait for the app to download your device’s codebase and tap Complete once it is completed.
Adding a Bluetooth Device
1. Select the Bluetooth tile on the Add Device page and choose your device’s brand on the Add Bluetooth device page.
2. Verify your device information on the next page and tap Complete.
3. On the next page, tap Next. Now, your U Series remote will be disconnected from your remote as you can pair only one Bluetooth device at a time.
4. Then, navigate to the Settings menu on your device and tap Bluetooth.
5. Select your Sofabaton remote from the list and connect your remote to your device.
Customizing the Remote Keys
You can change the function of each button on your remote and reassign new functions using the app. For example, you can change the power button function to include other functions such as Guide. After changing this function, whenever you press the Power button, the TV guide will appear on your screen.
To do so, choose your device → tap Remote Keys → Choose the button you want to customize → tap Reassign Remote Key → change the function → tap Done.
Steps to Configure X Series Remote Using the SofaBaton App
The following steps show the process of configuring the SofaBaton X Series remote using the SofaBaton Smart Remote app.
Connecting the SofaBaton App with the Hub
Since the X Series remote does come with the IR blaster, you need to place the Hub in your room to use the remote before you connect the app with the hub. If you have placed the hub on the closed cabinet or in the hidden corner, you need to connect it to the IR blaster and transmitter. Make sure the connected IR blaster and transmitter are not within the closed cabinet.
1. Launch the app and select X Series from the Select Your Device page.
2. Tap Setup New Hub and connect your Hub with a power outlet.
3. Turn on the pairing mode of your Hub by pressing and holding the Power button on it for 3 seconds till the blue light blinks.
4. Check mark “The Blue Indicator of the Hub is Blinking” option at the bottom of the app and tap Next.
5. Select the Hub that you want to connect to WiFi on the next page
6. Choose the WiFi network and enter the Password to connect your Hub to a WiFi connection.
Note: The hub is compatible only with 2.4GHz WiFi and not with 5GHz WiFi.
7. After you successfully connect to a WiFi connection, tap OK, and you will be taken to the devices page.
Adding Devices to the X Series Remote Using the SofaBaton App
You can add your devices with the X series remote in three ways such as via Infrared, Bluetooth, and WiFi based on your devices.
Add Your IR Device to X Series
You can add your IR device using any one of the two options: Learn from the Original IR remote or Search in the Database.
Learn from Original IR Remote
1. Choose Infrared on the Add Device page.
2. On the next Add IR Device page, select Learn from Original IR Remote.
3. Select your Device Type from the list of devices. Following that, select the Separate Power on & Power off option and tap Next.
4. Tap To Learn near the Power on command on the Learning page.
5. A pop-up menu with the instructions will appear on your screen. Read the instructions, close the pop-up, and tap Next.
6. Enter your Device Name, choose the Icon, and tap Complete.
Search in the Database
1. After selecting the Infrared option, tap Search in the Database.
2. Choose your TV brand and Model in the next Step.
Note: You can add your device manually by selecting I can’t find the corresponding brand option. To do that, tap Start Testing → select the TV icon → Test the commands and tap Next → click the Power button → Tap Yes on the prompt.
3. Tap Next on the Command list page.
4. Select your Device name, choose your Icon, and tap Complete on the Device Information page.
5. Now, the app will begin to download the codebase for your TV and tap Complete.
Add the Bluetooth Device to X Series
1. Select the Bluetooth tile on the Add Device page and choose your device’s brand on the Add Bluetooth device page. For illustration, we are using Apple TV.
2. Verify your device information on the next page and tap Complete.
3. Go to Settings on your Apple TV and select Remotes and Devices.
4. Click on the Bluetooth option. Select your Sofabaton remote from the list and connect your remote to your Apple TV.
5. A message will appear on your screen explaining that the device has been added to the Hub. Tap Complete to finish the step.
Add Your Device to X Series Remote via WiFi
You can only add Roku, Sonos, and Philips Hue using this option. To add these devices, you need to connect the SofaBaton app and your device to the same WiFi connection.
1. Tap the WiFi tile on the Add Devices page. The app will automatically scan for the devices that are connected with the same WiFi connection.
2. Choose your Device from the list and tap Complete on the Device Information page.
Source Configuration for Your Devices
The Source Configuration feature will be useful for switching between external devices with the SofaBaton remote.
1. After adding your devices, you will see a Not configured tab near your device. Select it.
2. Tap the Source Configuration option at the top of the screen. If there is no Source Configuration option on the top, select Edit and tap Source Configuration.
3. Tap I need to Switch Input option on the Source Configuration page and tap Go to Configure.
4. Next, on the Source Switching Mode page, you need to select any one of the three options according to your preferences.
- Direct Input Switching: You can choose this option if your remote has a unique button for all the input options.
- Bring Up the Navigation Menu: You can pick this option if your device remote has a source button and uses the navigation button to select inputs.
- Input Toggling/Cycling: If your device remote has a single button to switch between different menus, you can select this option.
5. After selecting your preferred Source Switching Mode, you can assign control commands to the keys and complete the configuration process.
